Personal Development - 5 Step Guide to Powerful Personal Development

personal developmentAugust 19, 2011 -- (by Alex Work) Personal development comes in many different forms these days. There is hypnosis, life coaching, life mastery, and a whole ton more. With all of the different gurus and products out there it can be easy to get swallowed up in confusion and analysis paralysis.

Before you get started on your own personal development journey, use this quick and powerful checklist to make sure your personal development experience is powerful and effective.

1. Whatever You Do, Start by Achieving Clarity. We live in a day and age where there is always a thousand things going on. We are expected to multi-task and juggle tasks, home life and our social life.

What ends up happening is that we are so inundated that we are unable to focus our energies on a couple things to the point that we can do them well. What is the answer? Trying to achieve fewer things. Not only does this concentrate our time, but it also gives us a powerful sense of clarity and focus to chase after the things we are most passionate about.

2. Give Yourself a Plan to Achieve Your Personal Development Goals. Most people struggle when it comes to this step. We know what we want, but the direction and journey to get there is hazy and unclear. Building a comprehensive plan of action can help clear the fog of uncertainty. personal development

By building your own personal development plan you are bringing your goals down from your dreams and putting them where they belong – firmly in reality.

3. Personal Development is Rarely Painless. Achieving your personal development goals will be a rough process. There is no denying this. Your plan – as awesome and as comprehensive as it will be – will rarely be executed without some sort of setback. The great things in life are worth fighting for. Not being aware that there will be struggles in your journey is a critical mistake many people getting into personal development neglect.

At the end of the day, the way which we decide to react against our setbacks and failures are what will determine whether we succeed or not. All too often I see people throw away their personal development goals the minute life deviates from their plan. Understand that life will always have curveballs for us, and be willing to meet them head-on.

4. Personal Development at Its Best is a Collaborative Process. Achieving your personal development goals is significantly easier when we surround ourselves with the people who are interested in seeing us succeed. This means dropping the naysayers and the enablers from your life.

This can be a difficult proposition that could mean some hurt feelings, but you will see massive gains in productivity when you shed this dead weight. Having a select number of people around you to encourage and support you (particularly when you feel those occasional lulls in motivation) is an easy way to keep on top of your personal development goals.

5. Personal Development Should Be Uniquely Yours. You personal development goals should be about you. It shouldn’t be done to impress someone else, and you shouldn’t be trying to achieve them because it is the cool thing to do. Your personal developmentshould be exactly that – distinctly personal.

Ask yourself (and be honest!) why is it that you want to achieve these specific personal development goals. Remember that at the end of the day no one else will do the work for you. No one else will make sure you are motivated each day.
